Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about converting and optimizing images.

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that provides superior lossy and lossless compression for images on the web. WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than comparable JPEG or PNG files at equivalent visual quality, helping pages load faster.

AVIF (AV1 Image File Format) is a next-generation image format based on the AV1 video codec. It offers even better compression than WebP — often 50% smaller than JPEG — with support for HDR, wide color gamut, and transparency, making it ideal for high-quality, low-bandwidth delivery.

Lossy conversion reduces file size by discarding visual data that is hard to perceive, so quality stays excellent at typical settings (85% is a great default). For pixel-perfect results, choose lossless mode for WebP or PNG, which preserves the image exactly while still compressing it.

Yes. This image converter is completely free to use with no sign-up, watermarks, or hidden limits. You can convert single images or batch-process hundreds at once.

Use WebP for the best balance of compression and universal browser support. Choose AVIF when you want the smallest possible files and your audience uses modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari 16.4+ all support AVIF).

Your images are processed on our server only to perform the conversion and are automatically deleted after 24 hours. We do not use third-party cloud storage, and files are never shared or used for any other purpose.

You can convert from JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, and HEIC/HEIF. Output formats include WebP, AVIF, JPEG, and PNG.

Each file can be up to 50MB, and you can upload up to 500 images per batch. Images are processed one at a time to keep conversions fast and reliable even for large batches.

Yes. By default we strip EXIF and other metadata (including GPS location) during conversion. This protects your privacy and further reduces file size.

Absolutely. You can set a target width or height — with popular presets like 1920, 1600, and 1200 pixels — and the aspect ratio is preserved automatically. Images are never enlarged beyond their original dimensions.

Lossy compression removes some image data to achieve much smaller files with minimal visible difference — ideal for the web. Lossless compression keeps every pixel intact for perfect fidelity, producing larger (but still optimized) files. Lossless is available for WebP and PNG.

WebP is supported by all modern browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera. AVIF is supported in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari 16.4 and later. For maximum compatibility you can always convert to optimized JPEG or PNG instead.
